Johan Christian Gebauer (born December 6, 1808 in Copenhagen ; † January 24, 1884 ibid) was a Danish composer, music theorist and organist.

The son of the painter Christian David Gebauer was a student of Friedrich Kuhlau from 1826 , later of Christoph Ernst Friedrich Weyse and Peter Casper Crossing . From 1842 he edited Sangfuglen , a subscription series in which works by young Danish composers appeared. In 1846 he became organist at the Petrikirche in Copenhagen. In 1859 he took over the position of organist at Helligåndskirken , which he held until his death. From 1866 to 1883 he taught harmony at the Copenhagen Conservatory. As a composer, Gebauer was best known for nursery rhymes that he originally wrote for his own children. He also composed piano pieces, organ preludes and several chorales. He also published writings on music theory.
