Johan Leemans

Johan Leemans (* 1965 in Duffel ) is a Belgian Catholic church historian . He has been Professor of Christianity in Late Antiquity at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven since 2008 with a focus on Greek patrons .

Life

He wrote his doctoral thesis on the sermons of the martyrs of Gregory of Nyssas . He then conducted research as a postdoc on the homiletic corpus of the Cappadocian church fathers. Between 2005 and 2008 he held the chair for Ancient Church History and Patrology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Erfurt .

In his research he mainly focuses on the fourth and fifth centuries in the Greek East. He is currently leading a project on Greek sermons on Ascension Day and Pentecost. He is also the editor of Sacris Erudiri magazine and co-editor of Vigiliae Christianae magazine . He works on the Novum Testamentum Patristicum project and on the Sources Chrétiennes edition of Gregory of Nyssa's sermons. Johan Leemans is a member of the Research Center for Church History and Theology and Vice Dean for Research at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven.
