Johann Philipp von Bethmann Study Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Johann Philipp von Bethmann Study Prize was founded in 1984 by Johann Philipp Freiherr von Bethmann (1924–2007). It is awarded annually in December for excellent projects to research the history of the city of Frankfurt by the head of the cultural department of the city of Frankfurt am Main . The prize is awarded by the Frankfurt Historical Commission of the Institute for Urban History .

Aim and purpose

The Johann-Philipp-von-Bethmann-Studienpreis, endowed with 4,000 euros, is intended to support young scientists who are working on a comprehensive, long-term, unfinished study project. According to the statutes, the result of this work should be suitable for expanding the scientific basis for research into Frankfurt's history. Doctoral students from all departments who are preparing a dissertation on the subject of Frankfurt history can therefore apply for the prize.

Application process

Applications for the Johann-Philipp-von-Bethmann-Studienpreis can be submitted to the management of the Frankfurt Historical Commission at the Institute for Urban History, Münzgasse 9, 60311 Frankfurt am Main. In addition to a cover letter with a résumé, a detailed synopsis of the topic, the structure, the sources, the research plan and a recommendation from the supervising university lecturer must be attached. A temporary work result should already be recognizable.

Jury and award ceremony

The jurors meet in November each year to determine the price. The resulting decision is final and legal recourse is final. After notification by the Frankfurt Historical Commission, the award ceremony will be carried out by the Frankfurt Historical Commission and the City of Frankfurt am Main's Department of Culture.
