Johann Christoph Meinel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Christoph Meinel (* around 1737 ; † February 12, 1772 in Merseburg ) was a German organ builder who had his workshop in Merseburg.

Meinel is described in the death register of the Merseburg city church as an "art-experienced instrument and organ maker". Due to his early death at the age of 34, the project was not carried out. When Johann Gottlob Sachse (1753–1818) asked Johann Andreas Silbermann for a job in 1776 , he referred to having learned organ building at Meinel in Merseburg.

The following commissioned work from Meinel can be verified so far:

  • 1769 Inspection and extensive repairs of the damaged organ in the castle and cathedral church in Merseburg . Meinel was entrusted with the supervision and maintenance of the organ, which was previously looked after by Heinrich Andreas Contius , which he carried out until his death.
  • 1770 Repair of the organ in the Zeitz monastery church
  • 1770 Repair of the organ in the Michaeliskirche Zeitz
  • Around 1770 repair contract for the organ in Niederklobikau
  • around 1771: two cost estimates for a new organ in the Merseburg city church St. Maximi (II / 34 and III / 42)
