Johann Daniel Eckhardt

Johann Daniel Eckhardt (born October 14, 1836 in Kressenbach ; † January 25, 1896 in Essen ) was a German miner and workers' leader.

Life

He worked in Essen from 1861 and became a citizen of Prussia in 1865 . He founded a department of the General German Workers' Association in Essen in 1868 and was very active in the labor movement in Essen in the years to come. After the Socialist Law came into force , he was the illegal leader of the SPD until 1890 .

Honors

After him is Daniel-Eckhardt-street named in Essen.
