Johann Halbmeyr

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Halbmeyr , also Johann Halbmayer , was a German hymn poet . He lived in the 16./17. Century. There is no certain knowledge about his life; it is said that he was born in Dornberg or in Merckendorf , although it is not known exactly which places are meant. He also worked as a clergyman in Vendersheim . In the hymn book Spiritual Psalms, Hymns, Songs and Prayers from Nuremberg , three songs are ascribed to Halbmeyr in the 1607 edition, but four in the 1618 edition. In a further edition of the hymn book from 1621 none of these songs is ascribed to him, probably due to a printing error.

With the exception of one, Halbmeyr's songs are adaptations of the Psalms .
