Johann Knöfel
Johann Knöfel also Knefelius, Knöfelius, Knefel, Knöbel, Knöpflin (* around 1525–1530 in Lauban ; † after April 21, 1617 in Prague ) was a German composer and organist .
Life
The biography of the organist Kaspar Krumbhorn (born 1542) shows that when Knöfel was around 30 years old, he worked as a cantor at the Valentin Trotsendorff Latin School, a Lutheran institution in Goldberg in Silesia, and that Krumbhorn was his student.
At the time of his wedding, on June 21, 1569, he was the conductor of Duke Heinrich XI. from Liegnitz, Brieg and Goldberg .
In 1579 he was Kapellmeister of the Palatine Elector of Heidelberg Ludwig VI . In 1583, after the death of Louis VI., The new Elector led John Casimir to Calvinism in the Palatinate again, the Lutherans Knöfel was dismissed from his post and returned to Silesia.
Shortly afterwards, in 1592, he went to Prague. That year he was organist and cantor in St. Heinrich , a school in Prague's New Town famous for its choir .
Apart from a remark in the records of the city of Klagenfurt from 1617, nothing is known about him: On April 21, a payment of 30 florins to Johann Knöfel is officially confirmed. However, this cannot rule out the possibility that he continued to live in Prague.
