Johann Ludolph Quenstedt
Johann Ludolph Quenstedt (born October 30, 1663 in Wittenberg ; † September 11, 1714 ibid) was a German bookseller and the first mayor of the city of Wittenberg .
Life
Quenstedt was the son of the theology professor at the Leucorea Johann Andreas Quenstedt . He became a bookseller and ran his business outside of Wittenberg. In 1690 he became a council member in Wittenberg as assessor and builder, in 1693 head of the god box and in 1702 mayor of the city. On March 25, 1703 he was given the title of Lord Mayor by special order of the elector , which was the first time he was awarded this title in Wittenberg.
In 1698 Quenstedt expanded the rectory on Stadtkirchplatz in Wittenberg (today's Bugenhagenhaus) and in 1702 built an orphanage in the Gray Monastery , which was destroyed in the Seven Years' War in 1760 when Wittenberg was bombarded. In 1703 Johann Ludolf Quenstedt became Accise Commissioner. As such, he died in 1714 at the age of nearly 51.
