from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Rosenzopf (born April 22, 1939 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee ) is a former Austrian industrial clerk. He is considered to be the source of ideas and inspiration for the Youth Olympic Games of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In February 1998, Johann Rosenzopf had the idea of launching Youth Olympic Games around the world. For several years, Rosenzopf was then in contact with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to push his idea, but initially received repeated rejections. The calendar is already full of international sporting events and the aim is not to develop new events, the IOC informed him by post.

Nevertheless, on July 5, 2007 in Guatemala - under the leadership of IOC President Jacques Rogge - the IOC decided to introduce youth Olympic Games. In November 2010, Rosenzopf was finally recognized as a source of ideas for the youth games in the course of a legal dispute by the IOC. Rosenzopf had made "a valuable and significant impulse and contribution" to the idea, Rogge said in an official statement.
