Life

He was a son of the Liebenfels landlord Hans Christoph von Gemmingen (1544–1596) and Margaretha von Jahrsdorf († 1591). Like many other members of his family, he entered the service of the prince-bishop of Augsburg, where his uncle Johann Otto von Gemmingen was prince-bishop from 1591 to 1598. He was councilor in Augsburg, governor of Dillingen and senior bailiff in Rötteln. He was considered learned and understanding, from him a family tree of the Gemmingen-Steinegg line has been preserved. On May 14, 1618, he married Johanna von Hornstein zu Grüningen. The marriage remained childless. In 1620 he donated an altar and an anniversary in Augsburg Cathedral for his brother Christoph (1571-1616), who was provost in Augsburg. In 1652 he wrote his will, which has been preserved in the Baden-Württemberg State Archives. A little later he died. In 1654, his heirs sold the property in Liebenfels to the St. Urban monastery .
