Johann von Hochkirchen (* 1482 in Aachen ; † June 1554 ) was a German lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

Johann von Hochkirchen was the son of Edmund von Hochkirchen and Marie von Roide and grew up in the Aachen suburb of Berger Quartier . The family had been based there since the 14th century, beginning with Johann I von Hochkirchen at Gut Berger-Hochkirchen and therefore bears a representation of the parish church of St. Laurentius in the crossing of the family coat of arms . Johann von Hochkirchen was admitted to the aldermen's chair around 1506 and elected mayor of the city of Aachen in 1509. Subsequently, in 1516 and 1517 he was a member of the Great Council of the City of Aachen, which was responsible, among other things, for general affairs and judged life and death. Since von Hochkirchen had already had a residence outside Aachen in Randerath since 1515 , he was appointed to the office of Jülich Drost in Randerath.

Johann von Hochkirchen was first married to Catharina von Imstenrath († before 1512) and, after her death, was married to Elisabeth, née von Hochsteden and widowed von Adelepsen, for the second time. He had two children with his first wife and three children with his second wife. He was a feudal lord on the Schurzelter mill and owned several estates both in the Berger Quartier and on the Jülich land. Von Hochkirchen died in June 1554 and Werner von Hochkirchen, his son from his second marriage, took over the Schurzelter Mühle on the occasion of his marriage on April 3, 1549.
