Johannes Magirus (born September 15, 1559 in Koblenz , † September 8, 1609 in Speyer ) was a German Jesuit , preacher and controversial theologian .

Live and act

Johannes Magirus from Koblenz joined the Jesuit order in 1585 and has been a member of the Jesuit College Speyer since around 1592 . Here worked under the rector Wilhelm Wolff von Metternich (1563-1636) as head of the associated school and as a well-known controversial preacher. In 1603 he was in an exchange of letters with the Calvinist Heidelberg theology professor David Pareus (1548–1622), which resulted in controversial theological writings on both sides. Johannes Magirus published various theological books. He died in Speyer in 1609, where he had worked for 17 years.
