John VIII (antipope)

The Deacon John was the end of January 844, after the death of Pope Gregory IV. By the people of Rome for Pope raised. He had military equipment brought in to forcefully enter the Lateran Palace . When Sergius II was elected rightful Pope shortly afterwards , he sentenced John to monastic imprisonment.

In the count of the Liber Pontificalis he is listed as John VIII and as an antipope .
