John X. Kamateros
John X. Kamateros (Greek Ιωάννης Ι΄ Καματηρός ; † 1206 ) was the patriarch of Constantinople (1198-1204).
Life
Johannes came from the Kamateros family. To her belonged u. a. also Euphrosyne Doukaina Kamatera , wife of Emperor Alexios III. Angelos . The year of his birth is not known. He enjoyed a high level of education. He was Chartophylax , a high clerical position in the administrative apparatus of the patriarchate.
On August 5, 1198 he was appointed Patriarch of Constantinople. From 1198 to 1200 there was an exchange of letters with Pope Innocent III. received on issues of the primacy of the Pope and the filioque .
In 1204 he went to Didymoteichon in Thrace after the conquest of Constantinople by crusaders .
In 1205/06 he refused to crown Theodor I. Lascaris as the first Byzantine emperor in exile in Nikaia and declared his renunciation of the office of patriarch.
He died in April or May 1206.
