Johannes von dem Eichhorn (also: Johannes dictus de or van den Eyghorn (e) ; * 13th century; † around 1346) was lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

Before he was accepted into the college of aldermen in 1337, Johannes von dem Eichhorn was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in 1334 . From 1338 he was a member of the council of the city of Aachen and in 1343 he was again elected head of the city, this time as aldermen-mayor.

During his first term of office, von dem Eichhorn took part as a delegate from Aachen in the consultations on the organization and development of the regional peace alliance Maas-Rhine between the cities of Aachen and Cologne as well as Kurköln and the duchies of Jülich , Limburg and Brabant . This should work for the lifting of unjust tariffs and with its own troops for the protection of traveling merchants and pilgrims from the widespread robber baronism.

On the occasion of a meeting on May 10, 1336 in Frankfurt, Johannes von dem Eichhorn, as the representative of Aachen, was assured by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian that the imperial privileges for the city of Aachen would be confirmed again. In the following years, von Eichhorn was appointed head of the delegation to important negotiations several times, which led him to the Prince's Congress in Bacharach in 1344 .

Johannes von dem Eichhorn was married to a lady whose name was not recorded. According to sources, the future mayor Konrad von dem Eichhorn is presumed to be one of John's sons based on the same address and the legal succession in the jury .
