Johanneskirche (Essen-Bergerhausen)
The Johanneskirche is a Protestant church in the Bergerhausen district of Essen . It was inaugurated in 1985 and replaces the older Johanneskirche, which was built from 1954 to 1955. The free-standing church tower of the first church building is still preserved.
history
In Bergerhausen, which was part of the church of Essen- Rellinghausen , a pastor's office was set up in 1928 and a parish hall was built in 1930. After the number of parish members had grown significantly, the presbytery decided to build a church, which was built according to plans by Ernst-Erik Pfannschmidt within a year and inaugurated on June 19, 1955. In the 1980s it became clear that the Johanneskirche, a cubic concrete building, was dilapidated and now too big for the community, which had had another place of worship since 1965 with the church on the Billebrinkhöhe. The concept of the church also no longer seemed up to date. The building was demolished except for the church tower and a new building was erected according to plans by Wolfgang Müller-Zantop and the architectural firm Budde-Gutsmann-Jung, which was inaugurated on September 29, 1985.
Furnishing
The outside portal of the church, a shadow relief work in bronze by Kurt Zimmermann , shows the Lord's Supper . The lead glass window attached above, like the other glass windows by Professor Friedhelm Strüwe, shows creation . The baptismal font, pulpit and altar are largely made of Ruhr sandstone . The organ is the work of Karl Schuke Berliner Orgelbauwerkstatt GmbH .
