Jens Joachim Kirsch (born April 5, 1939 in Hanover ) is a German surgeon , cultural politician and art collector in Mannheim .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Walsrode / Lower Saxony, Kirsch studied medicine and business administration at the Universities of Erlangen , Kiel , Hamburg , Vienna , Berlin , Heidelberg and Mannheim with a state examination and doctorate in 1965 at the University of Heidelberg . He is married and has five children.

Kirsch was born in Hanover as the oldest of three children. After several years of surgical training, he joined the Boehringer Mannheim company in 1971 and worked there as a scientific marketing manager until 1976. With a special training as a rectal surgeon in London , he founded the End and Colon Center (EDZ) Mannheim in 1980 and expanded it into one of the leading specialist institutions in Europe. As a result of his professional commitment, he was 1st Chairman of the Professional Association of Coloproctologists in Germany (BCD) from 1992 to 2004, founded the European Society for Coloproctology (ESCP) in 2006 and was its Chairman of Trustees until 2009. At the end of his professional career, he donated the annual Jens J. Kirsch Prize of the German Society for Coloproctology in 2003 , which he co-founded in 1990. In 2004 he was appointed honorary chairman of the BCD at the 30th German Coloproctologist Congress.

politics

In 1979 Kirsch joined the CDU and has been a member of the Mannheim district executive since 1991. In 1994, he was first in the council of the city of Mannheim elected and since then engaged in the hospital and healthcare, culture in Mannheim and Medium-sized Businesses. He is the cultural policy spokesman for his parliamentary group and contact person for the citizens of the Oststadt / Schwetzingerstadt district. He is a member of the supervisory board of the University Hospital Mannheim and the administrative board of the Heinrich Lanz Foundation.

Culture

Kirsch is a member of cultural associations in Mannheim. Together with his wife Barbara, he founded the non-profit foundation “Sammlung Kirsch” in 2012, which today includes a private collection of works by the Art Nouveau artist Hans Christiansen . With more than 80 paintings and graphics, all 64 prints for the magazine " Jugend ", as well as posters and postcards, it is today "[...] the most extensive private collection of Hans Christiansen's pictures." The foundation "Sammlung Kirsch" was founded 2018 member of the Federal Association of German Foundations .
