The John Cranko Society e. V. was founded in Stuttgart in 1975 on the initiative of the ballet critic Heinz-Ludwig Schneider at the time with the aim of increasing and deepening knowledge of ballet in general and of John Cranko and his work in particular.

Work of society

For this purpose, the John Cranko Society organizes a so-called “Jour fixe” once a month for its members. As part of these jours fixes, dancers from the Stuttgart Ballet , choreographers and other personalities from the world of dance report on their work and their lives. Whenever possible, these conversations also establish a connection with John Cranko - with the person, his work and his life. In addition, the John Cranko Society promotes and supports dancers, choreographers, productions as well as the ballet school named after John Cranko, the John Cranko School in Stuttgart and its students. The society is run by a voluntary board and has more than 200 members. It is based in Stuttgart.
