Kang Sue-jin (born April 24, 1967 in Seoul ) is a South Korean ballet dancer . She is prima ballerina at the Stuttgart Ballet .
She is best known for dramatic roles such as Tatiana in Onegin .
biography
Kang Sue-jin learned Korean folk dance as a young girl in her native city of Seoul in South Korea. Only then did she begin to take ballet lessons and in 1982 moved to Europe to study with Marika Besobrasova at the Académie de Danse classique Princesse Grace in Monte Carlo . In 1985 she became the first Asian woman to win the Prix de Lausanne .
On September 1, 1986, at the age of 19, Kang became the youngest member of the corps de ballet in the history of the Stuttgart Ballet. In 1994 she was promoted to soloist under Marcia Haydée and to principal soloist under Reid Anderson in 1997.
She married her manager Twinch Shokman, a former dancer, on January 12, 2002.
In January 2013, she published her autobiography in Korean . In December 2013, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism appointed her to succeed Choi Tae-ji as director of the Korea National Ballet . Your appointment spans the three years from 2014 to 2016.
