Series of murders against Roma in Hungary 2008–2009
The series of murders of Roma in Hungary in 2008–2009 was a series of ten racially motivated attacks on Roma in Hungary that occurred between 2008 and 2009 and which killed six people, including a four-year-old boy. 55 people were injured, five people suffered serious injuries.
In the media, the series was often referred to as the Roma murders , the right-wing extremist perpetrators as the death brigade .

method
According to the media, the perpetrators chose villages for their attacks in which they increased existing tensions between the Roma and the majority population. They pelted houses in which Roma lived with Molotov cocktails to force the residents to leave. The fleeing people shot at them with firearms.
Investigations and Proceedings
Using GSM -Aufenthaltsdaten four suspects were pried and collected in August of 2009.
The three main perpetrators were sentenced in the first instance by the Budapest District Court in August 2013 to life imprisonment for multiple murders committed jointly for base motives and other acts. The verdict became final in 2016. The fourth suspect, alleged to have acted as a driver in the acts, cooperated with the court and was sentenced to 13 years in prison for aiding and abetting.
Movie
Part of this series is dealt with in the feature film Just the Wind by Hungarian director Benedek Fliegauf , which received an award at the Berlinale 2012 . It shows the last day of a Roma family before they were murdered.
The 2014 film The Trial of Budapest ( Judgment in Hungary ), directed by Eszter Hajdú, documents the trial against three main perpetrators and an accomplice over the entire duration of the trial (167 days) and the pronouncement of the verdict. The film was broadcast on ARTE on April 12, 2016 .
