Life

Marcia Haydée grew up in Rio de Janeiro as the daughter of a doctor. Her international career began with her debut in Rio de Janeiro in 1953. After several years of engagement with the Grand Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas , Marcia Haydée came to Stuttgart in 1961. She accepted an engagement from General Manager Walter Erich Schäfer to work at the Stuttgart Ballet , where she became prima ballerina under the direction of John Cranko .

Her breakthrough to world fame came in 1962 in Romeo and Juliet , together with Richard Cragun. The Stuttgart company became one of the world's leading ballet troupes. After the death of John Cranko in 1974 the US-American Glen Tetley took over the management of the troupe, in 1976 Haydée was appointed ballet director. She also worked with other contemporary dancers and choreographers, such as John Neumeier , who dedicated his ballet Lady of the Camellias to her, and Maurice Béjart . In Stuttgart she specifically promoted the next generation such as William Forsythe , today one of the most important choreographers in the world. She also showed her own choreographies: Sleeping Beauty in 1987 and Giselle in 1989 . From 1994 to 1996 she directed both the Stuttgart and Santiago de Chile ballet companies . Marcia Haydée said goodbye to the Stuttgart Ballet in 1996. Since 2002 she has directed the Ballet of Santiago de Chile again at the Teatro Municipal, she goes on tour with the ensemble around the world and now shows dance theater . In March 2009, Haydée was awarded the Great Cross of Merit with a Star .

Marcia Haydée lived with Richard Cragun for 16 years. She has been married to her yoga teacher Günther Schöberl since 1995 .
