The ESV Münster (official: Eisenbahner Sportverein Münster 1927 eV ) is a sports club from Münster in Westphalia . The first soccer team played as RSV Münster for two years in the highest amateur league in Westphalia.

history

The association was founded in 1927 as Reichsbahn SV Münster and has had its current name since 1961. In addition to football, the club also offers athletics , tennis , gymnastics and bowling . Except for gymnastics, all sports can be practiced on the club's own sports grounds.

Soccer

The soccer team initially played for a long time in the lower divisions. After a runner-up in 1955, he was promoted to the then fourth-class Landesliga Westfalen two years later . Thanks to the good youth work, the Reichsbahner rose in 1960 to the Association League Westphalia , which was the highest amateur league in the country at the time. In the same season, the Reichsbahner made headlines with a 2-0 win in the first round of the West German Cup against the first division club Preußen Münster . After a 2-1 win over Sportfreunde Gladbeck , the game ended in the round of 16 against Hamborn 07 .

In the 1960/61 promotion season , the Reichsbahner caused a sensation with the Pohlschmidt brothers Bernhard , Helmut and Manfred and came third behind Germania Datteln and Arminia Bielefeld . Then the team broke up when Bernhard and Manfred Pohlschmidt moved to the Prussians. A year later, relegated from the Association League. In 1970 the ESV also said goodbye to the regional league. From 1970 to 1981 and from 2002 to 2006 the team played again in the district league before the railroaders relegated to the district league C in 2018 after two relegations in a row.
