John Anderson ( December 1900 in Hedleyhope ; † unknown) was an English football player .

Career

Anderson played for a number of local clubs, mostly in the North East of England , before joining AFC Ashington as an amateur during the 1924 summer break . For the first team of Ashington Anderson played for the first time in the replay of the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup 1924/25 on November 19, 1924 against Hartlepools United . He was called up as a right winger, but had to leave the pitch after a few minutes in the first half due to injury and was only able to return in the course of the second half. Still, Ashington won the game 2-0 with two goals from Bill Gardner . Three days later he was in a game in the Third Division North again in the team. Again the opponent was Hartlepools United, but the game ended in a 3-0 defeat. On the same day, the press reported that Hartlepool had appealed against the valuation of the cup game. The reason for this was that Anderson had already signed an "M-Form" (a kind of membership declaration ) at FC West Stanley , which meant that even as an amateur he was not easily eligible to play for Ashington. A Football Association commission upheld Hartlepool's protest, disqualified Ashington from the competition and sentenced the club to three guineas . Anderson subsequently no longer appeared for Ashington, in February 1925 his registration with the Football League was canceled again.

In the autumn of 1925 Anderson was in Devonshire in south-west England and played there for a few weeks for the local club South Molton , before he was first used by Exeter City in a reserve game against AFC Bideford . A week later, on November 7, 1925, Anderson, presented in the press as an "unknown amateur", was called up in a game between the Third Division South and Southend United when the two regular half-strikers Harry Kirk and Colin Myers were taken off the team and by him and Wilf Lievesley were replaced. The measure proved to be unsuccessful and ended in a 1: 3 defeat. Anderson, who was certified by the press as "working hard but lacking experience," and who "never developed an understanding until it was too late" with wing partner Frank Newman , made no further appearance on Team.
