John Baston

John Baston (* around 1685 , † around 1740 ) was an English composer and flautist of the late Baroque.

John Baston had jobs at Stationers 'Hall (1708-1714), Coachmakers' Hall (1722-1733), and he was mentioned as a musician at the Drury Lane Theater . The recorder is considered to be his most important instrument . The only compositions by Baston that have survived are his “Six Concertos in Six Parts for Violins and Flutes” from 1729, which are available again in new editions. His compositional style was spirited, using simple but pleasing harmonies in his works. In 1739 Baston was one of the founding members of the Society of Musicians .
