John Bright (lawyer)

John Bright (born May 23, 1884 in Middletown , New York , †  March 24, 1948 there ) was an American lawyer . After his appointment by President Franklin D. Roosevelt , he served as a federal judge in the federal district court for the southern district of New York from 1941 until his death in 1948 .

Career

After graduating from school, John Bright studied law until 1906 . He then practiced as a lawyer in Middletown until 1941. There he also worked as a corporate lawyer from 1910 to 1917. In 1914 he served as director of the Orange County Trust Company .

On April 25, Bright was appointed Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by President Roosevelt ; the corresponding seat had previously been newly established. After confirmation by the United States Senate on June 3 of the same year, he was able to take office three days later. He died on March 24, 1948 in his hometown Middletown and was buried in the local Hillside Cemetery . His seat fell to Samuel H. Kaufman .
