John Carew (* before 1508; † between April 7, 1544 and February 6, 1545) was an English politician who was once elected as a member of the House of Commons .

John Carew was the second or third son of John Carew from Antony , a member of the gentry of Cornwall , and his wife Thomasin Holland. His elder brother Wymond Carew became the heir to his father's estates. Through the influence of Wymond, who rose in the service of the Duchy of Cornwall, and through the influence of the distantly related Sir Giles Strangways , Carew was able to enter the service of William Bond in Dorset as a customs officer before 1529 . Before July 1538 he was finally commissioned with the collection of duties in Poole . Carew initially leased a property in Oakley , and later moved to Canford near Wimborne Minster . Probably with support from Strangways, who had considerable influence in Poole, Carew was elected in the general election of 1542, along with Oliver Lawrence , another customs officer, as MP for Borough Poole. Nothing is known about his activities in the House of Commons. He made his will on April 7, 1544, in which he thought of his wife Mary, a son and a daughter, and died before the next general election in early 1545. According to his will, his widow received his possessions on February 6, 1545.
