John Cashmore (* in Birmingham ) is a British baritone opera singer .

Life

Cashmore received his training at the Birmingham Conservatoire and at the National Opera Studio in London with Tito Gobbi . His successful path as an opera, operetta, oratorio and musical singer is evidenced by numerous appearances at important houses, such as B. the English National Opera , the Scottish National Opera , the Royal Albert Hall , the Musica Nel Chiostro Batignano , the Philharmonie Berlin and Philharmonie Cologne .

After working with Leonard Bernstein during the UK premiere of A Quiet Place , he recommended him for portraying Bernstein's own works such as Mass and West Side Story . Following his portrayal of Tony in West Side Story at the Stadttheater Aachen , he was given the leading role of Don Parker for the world premiere of Eric Woolfson's musical Gaudí , which he has sung over 800 times to date.

John Cashmore is known worldwide as the “Celebrant” in Leonard Bernstein's work Mass . He was seen in this role in the following productions:

  • WDR radio orchestra under the direction of Helmut Froschauer (Cologne Philharmonic). The performance was recorded and broadcast on WDR3 and WDR4.
  • Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hamburg State Opera, Philharmonic Orchestra Bremen , German Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Kent Nagano (Philharmonie Berlin), broadcast on Deutschlandfunk, Romanian Radio Orchestra, Basel Simphionetta, also in Basel, Freiburg, at Theater Lüneburg and at the Junge Philharmonie Salzburg .

In 2005 John Cashmore produced the musical Gaudi together with his wife Kaybee Cashmore and again played the leading role in this new production. The piece was played in Alsdorf, Düren, Niedernhausen and Cologne until 2008. At the same time, he played the main role of Agent Blond in Cologne in the musical License 4 two and was on stage in the WDR production Hey Mr. Crosby in the title role of Bing Crosby in the Cologne Philharmonic. In 2011 he founded the company Stagevisions with his wife Kaybee Cashmore, who is also a singer, presenter and actress, with which the two artists conceive new shows and concerts, and also act as an event and artist agency. They also have a recording studio and their own record label (Stagevisions Underground Records). A total of more than 20 concepts have already been implemented and John Cashmore is currently on tour with 9 different productions.

From 2011 and 2012 John Cashmore toured Germany with his program "Spirit of Scotland", followed by a tour with the program "Classic meets Rock" and in 2014 and 2015 the tour with "Gaudi meets Gambler". Since 2016 he has been on tour with the "Celtic Spirit" program.

In 2016 John Cashmore was a guest on the ZDF program "Hallo Herr Steinmeier" on the subject of "Brexit". The SWR also broadcast a report on the life of John Cashmore.

In 2016, the British company Cre8ive Lounge Limited took over the Stagevisions brand including Stagevisions Underground Records and represents John Cashmore internationally.
