John Frederick Matthews
John Frederick Matthews (born February 15, 1940 ) is a British classical philologist .
Life
He received his DPhil from Oxford University in 1969 . From 1969 to 1996 he taught the history of the Roman Empire in Oxford . He then moved to Yale University , where he taught as a professor emeritus in 2017.
