John Fowler (painter)

John Fowler (* 1937 in Beccles , England) is an English painter and graphic artist who has lived in Stuttgart since 1988 . His works mainly deal with myths of antiquity.

Works and reception

Fowler's pictures often deal with Greek and Roman myths. Fowler is inspired in his works by comics, among other things. Other influences include both Polynesian and African art, as well as 19th and 20th century English and French caricature. The Stuttgart literary scholar Hans Ulrich Seeber said of Fowler's works: "When you look at his pictures, you read a mythical text."
