John Gordon Jameson

John Gordon Jameson ( April 13, 1878 - February 26, 1955 ) was a Scottish politician and major.

Life

Jameson was born in 1878 to Andrew Jameson, Lord Ardwall . He studied law and was admitted in 1903. In 1919 he was accepted into the Lincoln's Inn . Furthermore, Jameson pursued a military career and served in the Yeomanry in the rank of major . He was used in the Second Boer War and in the First World War. Jameson died in 1955.

Political career

After the death of James Gibson, 1st Baronet , who had held the mandate of the constituency of Edinburgh East since 1909 , in 1912, by-elections were held in this constituency. To these Jameson ran formally for the Liberal Unionists , whose merger with the Conservatives to the Unionist Party had already been decided at this time and was imminent. However, Jameson was defeated by the liberal adversary James Hogge . In the general election of 1918 , Jameson ran for the constituency of Edinburgh West . With a share of 50.9% of the vote, he prevailed against his opponents, the liberal Edward Parrott and the Labor candidate John Young , and subsequently moved into the British House of Commons for the first time . In the following general election in 1922, Jameson was defeated by the Liberal candidate Vivian Phillipps and he left the House of Commons.
