John T. Lescroart
John Thomas Lescroart (born January 14, 1948 in Harris County , Texas ) is an American writer . His name is pronounced less'-kwah . In terms of his parentage, he is half Irish , half French . Its name goes back to a band of French bandits "Les Croquart" from the 14th century. Lescroart studied English literature at Berkeley . For a while he tried to make music in Europe. He wrote over 500 lyrics but didn't land a hit.
His father would have liked to see him become an insurance salesman like himself, but Lescroart always wanted to be a writer. So he began to write at the age of 30, while working on the side. He wrote Sunburn , a book in which he reported on his travels in Europe, which also won an award. But neither with this nor with the following three books he was particularly successful. After a severe meningitis in 1989, he gave up his job and devoted himself entirely to writing. Then he made the breakthrough to become an internationally successful writer.
Today John T. Lescroart lives in Davis, California with his wife Lisa and children .
The heroes of his books are Dismas Hardy (a former cop, district attorney, and current attorney) and Abe Glitsky (the chief homicide inspector of the San Francisco Police Department).
Although the blurbs of his books published in Germany claim that he studied law and worked as a lawyer, Lescroart says in the foreword to The Familiar that, unlike many of his fellow writers, he would never have done this.
