John Rae (economist)
John Rae (born June 1, 1796 in Aberdeen , † July 12, 1872 in New York City ) was a British-American teacher, physician and economist.
John Rae studied classical studies, mathematics and medicine at the Universities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh .

His main work Statement of some Principles on the Subject of Political Economy with his capital theory anticipated important elements of the later marginal utility theory , as it was formulated in the work of Eugen Böhm von Bawerk . Although John Stuart Mill quotes from it frequently in his Principles of Political Economy , it fell into oblivion for a long time before it was republished in an abridged and revised version under the title "The Sociological Theory of Capital" in 1902 and received a very positive response in representatives of the neoclassical .
