John Russell Young (* 1882 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † 1967 ) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1952 he served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Mayor of the federal capital Washington, DC

The sources on John Young are very poor. He was born in Philadelphia , according to an entry on the list of Chairmen of the Board of Commissioners . Nothing is known about his career beyond his time in this commission. In 1940 he became a member of the three-person commission that ruled the city of Washington. Within this group he was appointed chairman in 1941. In this capacity he practically exercised the office of mayor, even if this title was not officially used between 1871 and 1975. He held this post between 1941 and 1952. After that, his track is lost again; it is only certain that he died in 1967. The Second World War fell during his term of office . After that the political importance of the United States increased worldwide. The city of Washington also benefited from this and its population increased as a result of the expansion of the federal administration.
