The John Rylands University Library (JRUL, John Rylands University Library) is the University of Manchester's library and information service. It was founded in July 1972 from the merger of the Victoria University of Manchester library with the John Rylands Library . On October 1, 2004, the library of the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology was added to the union of the two universities. The official names of the libraries have changed a little over the years.

The JRUL is the largest academic library in the United Kingdom without a collection of legal deposit has the largest collection of electronic resources of libraries in the UK and supports all scholarly disciplines at the university. The library offers its members a wide variety of services and resources (including electronic ones). Limited scope is also offered to the public, schools and commercial establishments. The entrance to the main building is on Burlington Street, Oxford Road Campus (formerly the Victoria University of Manchester) and is only possible with a library card through access machines .

The John Rylands University Library also oversees some branch libraries in other university buildings, such as the Eddie Davies Library ( Manchester Business School ) and the Joule Library ( Sackville Street Building ).
