John Swartzwelder

John Joseph Swartzwelder, Jr. (born November 16, 1950 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American comedy screenwriter.

He first worked in the advertising industry until he became the author of Saturday Night Live . There he met George Meyer . With him he made Army Man magazine . Sam Simon read this magazine and hired Swartzwelder and Meyer to write for The Simpsons . Swartzwelder created 59 episodes for the animated series, making it by far the largest number of episodes. After the 15th season of The Simpsons ended, he started writing novels. He lives very secluded and has so far not wanted to give audio commentary on the Simpsons. Some of his colleagues have referred to him as a fan of Preston Sturges and other ancient films. His political views are said to be libertarian . Among other things, he spoke out for the rights of gun owners and he is said to be an anti-environmental activist .
