Johnny Reinhard

Johnny Reinhard (born April 29, 1956 in New York City ) is an American microtonal bassoonist , conductor and composer.

Act

Reinhard studied bassoon at the North Carolina School of the Arts (Bachelor) and at the Manhattan School of Music (Master). Since 1981 he has directed the New York American Festival of Microtonal Music , which is dedicated to the performance of rarely performed works with new harmonic concepts. In 1999 he released the album The Raven with his own compositions. In 2005 a CD with the Universe Symphony by Charles Ives was released in the 1991 realization by Reinhard. He has conducted world premieres by Charles Ives, Edgard Varese , Harry Partch , Toby Twining and Wendy Carlos .

Reinhard is a member of the Trio on the Cuff , consisting of bassoon (Reinhard), didgeridoo (Ulrich Krieger) and percussion (Yoshiaki Ochi). In recent years he has worked intensively with tuning systems , in particular a division of the octave into 128 tone steps based on the eighth octave of the overtone series .
