Joint Forces Staff College

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) in Norfolk , Virginia was established on June 28, 1946 under the name Armed Forces Staff College as a cross -armed forces training facility for the education and training of senior staff officers in the US armed forces . It trains armed forces across the board and multinational (“joint and combined”) staff officers for the planning and implementation of military operations (“operational level”). Previously, the Army and Navy Staff College (ANSCOL) had existed from 1943 , which had a similar function and conducted four-month courses.

Military operations have to be carried out more and more often across the armed forces ("Joint") and multinational ("combined"). Accordingly, the US armed forces established a training facility at an early stage in which military executives are comprehensively prepared to work with staff officers from other branches of the armed forces and allied armed forces.

Training at the JFSC is part of the U.S. senior staff officer training. For this reason, this college became part of the National Defense University in Washington, DC in August 1981. It has been named Joint Forces Staff College since October 30, 2000.
