MünchenKlang is a classical ensemble of choir and orchestra in Munich and regularly gives concerts in Munich and in other European countries.

The choir and orchestra ensemble MünchenKlang was founded in April 2013 by students with the aim of performing classical music together. The orchestra is set up as a project orchestra thanks to its rehearsals, which are only organized on weekends, while the choir meets for weekly rehearsals. The more than 170 members come from different age groups, professions and subjects. MünchenKlang is registered as a non-profit association .

The ensemble performs two to three concerts per year at different concert venues in Munich such as the New Parish Church of St. Margaret , the Large Aula of the LMU , the Herkulessaal in the Residenz or the Philharmonie am Gasteig . The ensemble toured in 2013 in the Brucknerhaus in Linz, in the context of the Expo 2015 in the Castello Sforzesco in Milan and in 2017 in the Berlin Philharmonie and in 2018 in the Andräkirche in Salzburg. In April 2019 MünchenKlang was a guest at the 10th International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Heydar Aliyev Palace in Baku. The ensemble has worked with the award-winning soloists Sumi Hwang , Selene Zanetti , Wilhelm Schwinghammer , David Sitka and Markus Zapp as well as the cabaret artist Maxi Schafroth . The MünchenKlang choir has also cooperated with renowned orchestras such as the Munich Symphony Orchestra , the Abaco Orchestra and the PLAY Orchestra .

In addition to the musical ones, the association pursues cultural-political goals and participates in the Munich concert hall debate. The call for a rally at Odeonsplatz under the motto “Do one thing, don't let the other go! - Munich needs two large concert halls ”on March 7, 2015, more than 500 Munich residents followed. The ensemble actively supports the concert hall Munich eV founded by the former Bavarian State Minister Kurt Faltlhauser . V.

Thomas Hefele has been the conductor of MünchenKlang since it was founded. Under him have so far included Candide by Leonard Bernstein in a concert version, the Messa da Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi , the Christmas Oratorio and the St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach , the Carmina Burana by Carl Orff , the Italian Symphony by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , From the Bavarian Highlands by Edward Elgar , The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins and the cantata Der Stern von Bethlehem by Josef Rheinberger for performance.
