Sumi Hwang

Sumi Hwang (born January 25, 1986 in Daegu ) is a South Korean opera singer ( soprano ).

Career

After attending the High School of the Arts in Seoul , Sumi Hwang began her vocal studies at Seoul National University with Hyunjoo Yun in 2004, completing her master's degree in 2011 ( bachelor's degree in 2008 and master's degree in music in 2011 ).

In 2011 she moved to Europe to start the postgraduate courses in singing / music theater or concert singing with Frieder Lang at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . It is there that she also attends Donald Sulzen's song class.

Sumi Hwang has already appeared in several opera roles , such as the princess in Maurice Ravel's opera L'enfant et les sortilèges (2010, National Opera Korea) or the Norina in Gaetano Donizetti's I pazzi per progetto under the direction of Ulf Schirmer (2012, Prinzregententheater Munich ).

She sang concerts with , among others, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra ( Liederhalle Stuttgart ), the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra and appeared in studio concerts for the Bavarian Radio in Munich and at the opera gala in Flensburg . In summer 2013 she sang Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem in the Wieskirche on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of "Festlicher Sommer in der Wies". In summer 2014 she again took on the role of soprano in the Verdi Requiem at a concert with MünchenKlang in the New Parish Church of St. Margaret . In 2014, she had a TV appearance at the Christmas concert with the Federal President .

From 2014 to 2018 Sumi Hwang was a member of the ensemble at the Bonn Opera . In the 2019/2020 season she is at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden .
