Jolien Schukking

Jolien Schukking (born August 9, 1967 in Noordoostpolder ) is a Dutch lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Schukking studied from 1987 jurisprudence at the University of Leiden , where the 1992 Master of Laws completed her studies. From 1993 to 1996 she worked in the administrative legal department of the Raad van State . From 1998 Schukking worked in the Dutch Foreign Ministry and represented the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights and other international courts. She was also a member of numerous committees dealing with issues of international law. In 2006 she became deputy judge at the Regional Court of Rotterdam, and in 2009 she was also a judge at the Regional Court of Utrecht. In 2013 she moved to the High Commercial Court of the Netherlands as a judge.

In January 2017, Schukking was elected to succeed Johannes Silvis as representative of the Netherlands as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights. She began her term of office, which is expected to last until 2026, on April 3, 2017. She was also a visiting professor at the University of Georgia and numerous Dutch universities.
