life and work

Jonas Eika attended the renowned school of authors (Forfatterskolen) in Copenhagen . He made his debut in 2015 with the novel Lageret Huset Marie (Das Lager, das Haus, Marie), for which he was awarded the Bodil og Jørgen Munch-Christensens Kulturlegat .

In 2018 his second book Efter solen (After the Sun) was published, a volume with five longer stories that are set in London, Nevada and Mexico, among others. Several of the texts are based on the science fiction genre in an idiosyncratic way . For this publication, he was the youngest author ever to be awarded the prestigious Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2019 . The jury highlighted Eika's "global perspective, his sensual and pictorial language and his ability to meet the political challenges of the present without feeling directed in a particular direction."

In a widespread acceptance speech after the Nordic Council was awarded the literary prize, Eika attacked the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who was present in the hall, with sharp words and criticized Denmark for its “state racism”.
