The Jopp Group (own spelling: JOPP Group) is a global group of companies based in Bad Neustadt an der Saale in the Rhön-Grabfeld district in Bavaria. Jopp is an automotive supplier, but also supplies components for other industrial sectors.
The group employs over 1900 people in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Mexico, the USA and China.
Jopp develops and manufactures gearshift systems for manual transmissions (MT), automated (AMT) and automatic transmissions (AT) and the associated plastic and electronic components, gear knobs and gear shift covers. There are also traditional mechanical components such as turned and sintered parts. JOPP develops and manufactures system solutions for assembly, automation, production and testing primarily for its own company. Plastic and electronic systems and components are also developed and manufactured for external customers. The same applies to machines and equipment used in automation technology.
history
In 1919 Theodor Valentin Jopp , a manufacturer from Zella-Mehlis in Thuringia, bought the Klostermühle "residential building with attached turbine system with generators" in Spörleinstraße in Bad Neustadt from the lawyer Franz Mauer and founded the Jopp company. In the beginning, parts for bicycles were produced; in 1920, seed drills, harrows, plows, forage cutting machines and bicycles were offered. In the 1920s, Jopp expanded its production program to include screws and turned parts . After the Second World War, the company was externally administered at times. It grew in the 1950s with components that were manufactured according to customer drawings for the automotive industry and its suppliers.
At the beginning of the 1960s a new plant was built in the Herschfeld district and gradually expanded. The sintering technology was also set up at this time. On October 16, 1991, the factory was taken over by new shareholders, Hubert P. Büchs and three other executive employees from Jopp. After their departure, other company members took over from Hubert Büchs.
In 2000, Jopp acquired Plant 2 on Meininger Strasse in Bad Neustadt from what was then BSW , as the premises in Plant 1 on Kastanienallee had become too narrow. In 2001 the production possibilities were expanded technologically and spatially through the acquisition of today's Jopp Plastics Technology GmbH. This company takeover in the district of Euskirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, formed the basis for further growth in the field of circuit technology , because essential components are made there from high-strength engineering plastics. At the end of 2002, Jopp took over the majority of the shares in what is now Jopp Electronics GmbH in Rottweil, Baden-Württemberg. Since then, Jopp has been developing and producing gear recognition switches with corresponding sensors, along with other gear recognition switches.
Start-ups
In 2003 Jopp Automotive sro was founded in Velké Meziříčí in order to be able to supply the customer Bosch in the Czech Republic on site. In the meantime, around 160 employees work there on a production area of around 6000 m². In addition to mechanical components, manual circuits (MT) for the global automotive industry are also manufactured there.
In 2006, a representative office was established in the large community of Weiting in the Suzhou industrial park, followed by a production company in 2008. Mechanical components for German production were initially manufactured there. Automotive customers are now being supplied on site.
In 2010, Jopp took over 60% of the company shares in IFSYS GmbH as part of a capital increase . IFSYS is a manufacturer of feeding and automation technology.
In 2011, the assets and shares of the Jopp Interior Group in Reichenschwand, Hungary and Mexico were taken over. All companies in the Jopp Group are certified according to ISO 9001, ISO TS 16949 and mostly also according to ISO 1455001.
In 2015, Verbund Elektroniksysteme St. Georgen GmbH was taken over. In 2016, the Indian supplier Remsons Industries Ltd. founded a joint venture in which both companies hold 50% of the shares. In 2016, ELKCOM GmbH in Rattelsdorf was also taken over. This now operates as EMSO Electrical Mechanical Solutions GmbH.
Products
Business areas
- Shift systems: Shift and selector actuation for all common types of transmission
- Oil and cooling systems: Oil and water-carrying systems for engines and transmissions
- Precision turning technology: Metal parts produced by cutting
- Sintering technology: Powder metallurgically manufactured steel parts
- Electronics: assembly of printed circuit boards
- Automation solutions: feeding technology and special machine construction
External circuit
Jopp develops and manufactures external circuits for various vehicle transmissions and vehicle interiors: circuits for the center console that are mounted either on the vehicle floor or under the vehicle floor and circuits that are mounted on the bulkhead of the vehicle as well as the required gear detection sensors.
Shift shaft module
Shift shaft modules that, in addition to the shift shaft, contain numerous functional elements for ergonomic and safe shifting of the transmission gears and are used in the transmission, including the start-stop sensors.
Transmission lubrication systems
Transmission oil systems are a specialty of Jopp Plastics Technology. The components place very high demands on materials and their processing.
Clutch actuation
Several components made of aluminum, plastic and rubber enable the hydraulic actuation of double clutches and their smooth shifting.
Knobs and covers
Knobs and covers for external circuits are developed in Germany and manufactured in Mexico and Hungary. Materials made of polyurethane, leather and plastics are used here.
Mechanical components
Mechanical components for industry have a long tradition at Jopp. Aluminum or various steels are used as materials. These are manufactured ready for installation on various lathes and machining centers. For honing and grinding operations, there is a corresponding production facility in-house, as well as for various deburring operations. Heat treatments and galvanic layers are carried out with efficient sub-suppliers.
Mechanical components can also be supplied as sintered parts from our own production facility. Our own tool shop is available.
Social Commitment
Jopp supports numerous initiatives and projects in the fields of art, sport and education. The founding villa has been made available to the Kunstverein for exhibitions and initiatives for 10 years. Jopp supports the Motorsport Club Rhön MSC with the expansion of the hill climb and the organization of the annual hill climb. HSC Bad Neustadt receives further support in the 3rd handball league, as does TSV Großbardorf in the Bavarian soccer league.
Jopp supports the Formula Student teams at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt and the University of Bayreuth and is committed to the endowed professorship for electromobility at the Bad Neustadt technology transfer center and provides the essential resources for the project "Bidirectional charging of electric vehicles in the company smart grid" . In addition, Jopp plays a key role at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and in the employers' association.
