Günter Sieben

Günter Sieben (born February 5, 1933 in Mainz ; † August 24, 2018 in Cologne ) was a German economist and professor for business administration (BWL) at the seminar for general business administration (ABWL) and auditing of the economics and social science faculty of the University of Cologne .

Life

Günter Sieben studied economics and received his doctorate in 1961 at the Faculty of Law and Economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . The title of his dissertation was The Substance Value. A contribution to teaching the valuation of the company .

From 1962 he found a job at the Seminar for Public Enterprises and then at the Seminar for Auditing .

Günter Sieben completed his habilitation in business administration at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne .

Since the 1970 summer semester he has been the director of the seminar for general business administration and auditing at the University of Cologne, the former Schmalenbach 's Treuhandseminar .

Günter Sieben has been director of the newly founded Institute for Broadcasting Economics at the University of Cologne since 1991, together with Karl-Heinrich Hansmeyer .

Since 1995 he has been a member of the executive board of the Society for the Promotion of Health Economics in Cologne, which is the sponsor of the Institute for Health Economics, Medicine and Society at the University of Cologne, founded in 1995 .

Günter Sieben appeared as the author and co-author of numerous publications on business management issues. Among other things, he published a monograph on Eugen Schmalenbach.

In addition, he was co-editor of various specialist journals , in particular Business Research and Practice (BFuP).

In addition, Günter Sieben acted as an exchange representative for the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne for the program for international management (PIM).

He was also a co-founder and has been Vice President of the Community of European Management Schools ( CEMS ) since 1989 .

Günter Sieben was also a member of the advisory board of the Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaft eV (SG) for the term of office from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2013 .

In 1998 Manfred Jürgen Matschke and Thomas Schildbach published the Festschrift Unternehmensberatung und Wirtschaftsprüfung on the occasion of Günter Sieben's 65th birthday .

Manfred Jürgen Matschke also published the article Reference models for determining the appropriate compensation for minority shareholders - Günter Sieben on his 80th birthday in 2013 in Festheft 1/2013 of Business Research and Practice on Günter Sieben's 80th birthday.

Günter Sieben received on February 17, 1992 at the Bonn Science Center for 1991 the “ Outstanding Achievements in International University Cooperation” award from the Federal Minister for Education and Research (BMBF) for the development of the “Program for International Management” and the “Community of European Management” Schools "(CEMS)" awarded.

Since October 15, 2003, Günter Sieben was also the recipient of the University Medal of the University of Cologne.

Research priorities

Günter Sieben's teaching and research focus included auditing and fiduciary management, accounting , company valuation (especially shareholder value ), questions of internal corporate management, health economics, problems of company pension schemes and broadcasting economics .

He also worked in research and teaching with honorary professors and lecturers , such as A. Dicken, auditor (WP) Hans Havermann , tax advisor (StB) and WP W. Klein, WP J. Lanfermann, K. Neukirchen, WP G. Minz , N. Seidel, G. Vogelsang and G. Zepf.

Practical experience

Günter Sieben was a member of the supervisory board of KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft .
