Erich Potthoff
Erich Potthoff (born January 10, 1914 in Cologne ; † May 2, 2005 in Meerbusch ) was an economist and university lecturer, auditor and member of the state parliament.
Live and act
After completing a commercial apprenticeship in 1934 and 1935, Potthoff worked as a commercial clerk. He then studied business administration and economics in Cologne. In 1939 he graduated with a degree in business administration. Potthoff then obtained his doctorate in 1941. rer. pole. Between 1937 and 1940 he worked as a research assistant to Eugen Schmalenbach . Subsequently, until 1946, he was authorized representative and authorized signatory of the Hartkopf + Rentrop Treuhand KG founded by Schmalenbach .
In 1946 Potthoff was a member of the SPD and represented the party in the Appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . He was also a member of the Economic Council of the Bizone in 1947 and 1948 .
Between 1946 and 1949 and again from 1952 to 1956 Potthoff headed the economic institute of the trade unions in Cologne together with Viktor Agartz . In between he was a member of the steel trust association in Düsseldorf . From 1957 to 1963 Potthoff was a board member of the Central Association of German Consumer Cooperatives based in Hamburg .
Since 1963 he was a member of the board of the Wirtschaftsberatungs-AG (WIBERA) in Düsseldorf. In addition, Potthoff was a lecturer at the University of Hamburg from 1961 to 1980 . Since 1963 he was also an honorary professor at the University of Cologne . Between 1969 and 1976 Potthoff was chairman of the board of the Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland eV He was also a co-founder of the trade journal "Der Betrieb."
In addition, Potthoff was a member of the board of directors from 1946 to 1983 and at times President and Vice President of the Schmalenbach Society. In 1996 Potthoff was awarded an honorary doctorate by the economics faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster for his services to business administration .
Together with Fritz Bauer, Willi Eichler and Otto Stammer he edited the magazine Die Neue Gesellschaft .
