Günter Vogelsang

Günter Vogelsang (born January 20, 1920 in Krefeld ; † March 16, 2015 in Düsseldorf ) was a German manager, chairman of the board at Krupp and one of the first professional supervisory boards in Germany.

Life

Günter Vogelsang was born as the son of an authorized signatory and purchasing manager of a Krefeld metal goods factory. After military service and military service, which he finished as a first lieutenant in the air force , Vogelsang became a prisoner of war. On his return, he completed a degree in business administration at the University of Cologne with the minimum duration and then worked as an auditor for Eugen Schmalenbach . During an examination at the steel merchant Willy Schlieker , he discovered that Schlieker had paid seven million  DM too much income tax. The subsequent move to Schlieker made people aware of him in the steel industry . At the age of 34, at the instigation of Berthold Beitz, he moved to Krupp's headquarters. In 1958 he became a member of the board of the Krupp subsidiary Hüttenwerk Bochumer Verein . He then moved to Mannesmann as CFO . In 1968, at the insistence of the banks, he was appointed CEO of Krupp. He managed to reorganize the highly indebted company in just a few years. At the age of 52, he resigned, after which he founded a management consultancy as an individual. In this role he was appointed to the supervisory board of Deutsche Bank and a number of other companies (including Blohm + Voss , Daimler-Benz, Dornier and Diehl, E.on, Gerling, Ruhrkohle , ThyssenKrupp) . From 1976 to 1993 he was chairman of the supervisory board of the energy company VEBA . From 1984 to 1996 he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Thyssen AG, from 1996 to 1999 he was Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board. In 1997 he was involved in the negotiations on the merger of Thyssen and Krupp on the Thyssen side . Between 1999 and 2013 he was also Honorary Chairman of the ThyssenKrupp Supervisory Board.

Vogelsang received his doctorate at the age of 72 and then successfully completed a habilitation . He was married and had a son and a daughter.
