Manfred Jürgen Matschke

Manfred Jürgen Matschke (born June 21, 1943 in Zeyersniederkampen , Elbing district ) is a German economist and professor of business administration , most recently at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald .

Career

He is the son of Heinrich and Lydia Matschke, nee Steffen. After being expelled from East Prussia , he attended elementary school in Großvargula and secondary school in Bad Langensalza in Thuringia and began an apprenticeship as a farmer in Merxleben . In August 1960, the family managed to escape to West Germany in time for the Wall to be built, where he passed his Abitur in Neukirchen (near Moers ) in October 1963. In the winter semester of 1963/1964 he matriculated at the University of Cologne . Already in 1966 he was interested in company valuation and was allowed to speak in Hans Münstermann's advanced seminar as a student . In the summer semester of 1966 he delivered a seminar paper that appeared in January 1969 as an essay entitled “The compromise as a business problem in setting prices for an appraiser in the context of company valuation”. In 1968 he submitted his diploma thesis entitled “Evaluation of the company from a decision-making perspective” in Cologne.

Between March 1970 and July 1973 he held an assistant position under Günter Sieben . In July 1973 he received his doctorate under the title “The decision-making value of the company” from Münstermann, published in 1975 as a book. During the post-doctoral fellowship of the German Research Foundation , which lasted between September 1974 and August 1976 , he dealt with the topic of company valuation with regard to arbitration proceedings. In February 1977 he acquired his license to teach business administration under the title “The Arbitrium Value of the Company” . In April 1977 he left the University of Cologne and took over a professorship for business administration at the University of Siegen , where he stayed until February 1982. In March 1982 he accepted an appointment at Clausthal University of Technology . In October 1995 he became a professor of Business Administration and Business Finance, in particular business valuation, to the University of Greifswald, where he in July 2008 emeritus was.

Of the more than 150 publications - apart from the works mentioned so far - his 1967 article “Debt financing and value of a company” (in: Die Wirtschaftsprüfung , 1967, p. 637), the 1969 article “The compromise as a business management problem with the setting of prices by an expert in the context of company valuation ”(in: Zeitschrift für Betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung , 1969, pp. 57-77), the 1971 essay“ The Arbitrium or Arbitration Value of the Company ”(in: Betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung und Praxis , 1971, p . 508-520), "The argumentation value of the company - company valuation as an instrument of influencing the negotiation" (in: Betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung und Praxis, 1976, pp. 517-524), the habilitation thesis published in 1979 came as Volume II of "Functional company valuation "On the market, the book" Financing of the enterprise "(1991) or his contribution" Principles of sub corporate valuation ”(in the book by Karl Petersen / Christian Zwirner / Gerrit Brösel (eds.), Handbuch der Unternehmensrechnung , 2013, pp. 84–118).

Scientific focus

Diploma thesis , dissertation and habilitation dealt with topics of company valuation. This is why he is one of the fathers of functional company valuation in research and teaching .
