The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts ( Arabic المتحف الوطني للفنون الجميلة في الأردن, DMG al-matḥaf al-waṭanī li-l-funūn al-ǧamīla fī l-Urdunn ) is a museum for contemporary art in Amman , Jordan .

history

The museum was founded in 1980 by the Royal Society of Fine Arts. The official inauguration took place under the auspices of the then King Hussein I and Queen Nūr al-Hussain .

The museum's permanent exhibition includes over 2000 works, including paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, installations, weavings and ceramics by more than 800 artists from 59 countries, mainly from Asia, Europe and Africa.

The museum was expanded and renovated under the Jordanian architect Mohamed al-Asad (* 1961). For this he received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2007 .
