Jordy Smith

Jordan Michael "Jordy" Smith (born February 11, 1988 in Durban , South Africa ) is a South African professional surfer who takes part in the World Surf League ( WSL ) championships.

Athletic career

In 2006, at the age of 18, Jordy Smith won the Junior Surfing World Championships in North Narrabeen, Australia. The following year Smith was able to qualify for the first time at the World Qualifying Series (QS) for the World Championship Tour (WCT) of the World Surf League ( WSL ) for the world championship. In the same year Smith was signed by his current main sponsor, O'Neill .

In the following years Smith won the Billabong J-Bay competitions in 2010 and 2011 in South Africa as part of the WCT , the Rio Pro competition in Brazil in 2013, the Hurley Pro competitions in California in 2014 and 2016, and the Rip Curl Pro competition in 2017 in Australia and the Outerknown Founders Cup in California in 2018. Jordy Smith is currently ranked 6th in the world rankings of the WSL.
