Jorge Carlos Fonseca (born October 20, 1950 in Mindelo ) is a Cape Verdean politician . He has been President of Cape Verde since 2011.

Fonseca studied law and politics at the University of Lisbon . He later held a visiting professorship at this university. He was a founding member of the Movimento para a Democracia party . From 1975 to 1979 he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from 1991 to 1993 he was Foreign Minister of his country. Fonseca is married to Lígia Fonseca.
