Jorge Rodríguez Esquivel (born April 18, 1968 in Toluca ) is a retired Mexican football player , who acted in the storm at the beginning of his career and was later used in midfield .

Life

Rodríguez began his professional career in 1988 with his hometown club Deportivo Toluca , for which he was under contract until 1995 and mostly acted in the position of the striker. In 198 games for the Diablos Rojos , he scored 39 goals.

He then moved to Santos Laguna , where he was mainly used in midfield. While he was a regular player until the end of 1996 and thus played a decisive role in the championship title of Torneo Invierno in 1996 , he only played nine games in 1997 due to an illness of Evans syndrome and then had to interrupt his active career for several years.

It was not until the 2001/02 to 2003/04 seasons that he made a comeback in the ranks of CF Pachuca , with only 19 appearances in these three years.

National team

Rodríguez made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team on March 13, 1991 in a goalless friendly against Argentina. His last international match was on November 20, 1996 in a 3-1 win over El Salvador.

He scored his first two international goals on July 18, 1993 in an 8-0 win against Canada. His third goal was on February 24, 1994 in a 2-1 win over Sweden.

The highlight of his international career was his participation in the soccer World Cup in 1994 , in which he only missed the opening game against Norway (0: 1), but played in the other three World Cup games of the Mexicans.
